Macquarie Park’s public transport usage grows ahead of Metro expansion

Public transport usage in Macquarie Park has seen active growth in the first quarter of 2024, ahead of the upcoming Sydney Metro expansion.

Macquarie Park's Metro stations have experienced a 5% ridership increase in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, despite recent closures due to preparations for the Sydney Metro extension.

Bus usage also saw a substantial rise, with a 14% increase in Quarter 1 2024 over Quarter 1 2023.

Following the release of Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District’s campaign ‘Always going your way’ and the upcoming Metro extension, both bus and Metro usage have increased by 8% in the quarter-over-quarter comparison.

With a promised 18-minute trip direct from the city and connections to more lines, the service expansion will broaden Macquarie Park’s 30-minute commuter catchment zone. The imminent development will provide convenience and more accessibility to Australia’s original innovation district.

In 2023, Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District members attended an industry briefing on what Metro means for Macquarie Park, including the launch of our recent report "Get Ready for More Metro." This report offers leading workplaces invaluable insights and data to help prepare them for the expansion.
