Arts After Dark: Beyond the build: Rethinking the housing crisis
When it comes to the question of how to solve a housing crisis, the default response can often be to “just build more houses”. But what does focusing only on volume and affordability actually cost our communities?
Join us for this dynamic discussion to unpack why creating liveable places goes beyond just bricks and mortar, with subject matter experts from across the Faculty of Arts to explore how supply-driven planning is playing out on the ground, and reflect on how decisions shape our cities’ communities and shared spaces by asking:
Where do affordability, sustainability, community, and everyday liveability collide – and does a holistic solution exist?
Why has building more houses become the main solution to the housing crisis?
How can planning reflect the diversity of how people live and connect to place, as well as the unique housing barriers they face?
