Metro extension, rapid bus networks and active transport key recommendations from new Macquarie Park transport report

A new report by Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District and Hadron Group is calling for an accelerated expansion of the Sydney Metro North West line, rapid new bus links and active transport.

The success of Sydney Metro North West extension has seen tap ons and tap offs increase by over 40% across the three stations in the Macquarie Park Innovation District (North Ryde, Macquarie Park and Macquarie University).

The report advocates for the development of the Tallawong to St Marys link as the next critical infrastructure project for the Government to accelerate funding for.

CMPID, General Manager, Davor Jozic outlines the benefits of the project: "The Tallawong to St Marys extension will connect up Macquarie Park to the new Western Sydney Internatinal Airport and provide access to high-tech jobs, education and health innovation opportunities to the booming northwest region."

The NSW Government has outlined a target of nearly 10,000 new homes and up to 100,000 jobs for the district as part of the recent Transport Oriented Development Rezoning.

An extension of the Metro, new rapid bus links and improved last-mile connectivity will serve to grow Australia's original innovation district which is home to over 63,000 jobs and 44,000 students.

Macquarie Park's population more than triples on weekdays due to commuters coming in for work and the extension can open up new opportunity social and economic outcomes for residents of the northwest region.

At the report launch event the industry guests heard insights from Edward Chan, Partner, Hadron Group and Transport for NSW on the current challenges and opportunities at the area.

The panel discussion also featured insights from Sam Buric, Optus and Tracy Morrah, Stockland about lived experience of key employers and developers at the district including Optus sustainable transport growth and Stockland's activation and tenant amenity offered at the new MPark development.
